Welcome To Camp Lakotah

Camp Lakotah is an intimate camp where children spend their summer days in an encouraging environment of play, learning, companionship, and fresh air!  Lakotah enjoys a beautiful, private setting nestled in the majestic pines along the shores of Little Hills Lake near Wautoma, Wisconsin.

Our summer camp experience provides cozy cabin living, creative counselors from all around the world, innovative programing, new friends, roaring campfires, cool splashes in a crystal-clear lake and views of the Milky Way!   A Camp Lakotah experience is uniquely poised to provide your child with the sense of wonder and excitement so essential to their growth and development.

And participation in a summer camp program has been shown to improve student achievement across core subject areas and increase engagement in learning. In addition, getting kids outside and active promotes a healthy lifestyle!

Camp Lakotah is a camp where every camper knows the rest and counselors are like family.  Our limited enrollment, caring counselors, and close family atmosphere makes Lakotah campers feel welcomed, safe, and valued.

From archery and riflery, to swimming, boating, canoeing, and kayaking to arts & crafts, nature and outdoor living skills, campers can experience a rich variety of activities. A typical day at Lakotah includes participating in three activity areas of personal choice in the morning, cabin activities in the afternoon, and all camp activities in the evening. This schedule provides campers a chance to grow both independently and as a member of a group. Our weekly theme days add a twist to the normal camp routine and give campers and staff a chance to show off their creativity!

Summer 2024

For the past 15 years we have been asked by prospective camp families what is most special about Camp Lakotah.  There are many aspects of camp we believe to be truly noteworthy; the beauty of our majestic pine-forested setting along a crystal clear lake, a non-competitive program which helps each camper build a balanced sense of self and responsibility, counselors who want to provide the next generation of Lakotah campers the same mentoring and healthy adult role models they enjoyed at camp, and an impactful set of traditions which provide a powerful sense of community as campers return each summer and throughout the formative years of their lives.

That’s the camp directors speaking of course.  If you ask our younger campers, they will tell you what makes Lakotah special is simple, it’s all about friendships and fun.  Our older campers will tell you it’s about feeling free from the pressures they experience at school or in sports and getting away from modern technology to spend time in a simpler, more natural world.  Indeed, we think every Lakotah camper would say there is no place remotely like camp in the world.

Various parts of this website provide lots of information about Lakotah’s setting and program, our people, and our culture.  As special as these are, there is something even more unique about Lakotah.  That is the deep sense of belonging which campers, counselors, and alumni from across the world feel towards their camp.  To those who have not spent time in our pine forest or quietly walked our beach, it is difficult to communicate this intangible sense of attachment, much less the spirit of love and loyalty which all Lakotah campers and staff share.  But you may read it in the words they use to describe the place.  You may see it in their smiles, and you may hear it in their laughter and in the songs they sing.

We hope you will join the fun with us this summer!
